After sustaining damage in Iowa’s 2020 derecho, the historic Methodist Church in Marion was written off by most, but not Nick AbouAssaly!

Built in 1895, the First Methodist Episcopal Church in Marion opened in 1896, but the congregation’s history dates back even further, to 1840, just one year after Marion's founding in 1839.

The 125-year old church was slated to be demolished, but Nick was relentless in his efforts to save this important structure and piece of Marion's history. "If you take away our historic buildings one at a time, you lose the soul of the community, said Nick.
