Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman PLC is pleased to announce that Travis M. Cavanaugh, Laura A. Jensen and Jacob W. Nelson have become members of the firm.

Travis M. Cavanaugh is engaged in estate and wealth transfer planning, general business and corporate law, and taxation law. He has been with Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman PLC since 2012. Mr. Cavanaugh was born and raised in Iowa City, IA. He earned his B.B.A in 2007 from the University of Iowa College of Business and his J.D. with distinction in 2012 from the University of Iowa College of Law. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Cavanaugh worked as a public accountant for two years at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Chicago, Illinois.

Mr. Cavanaugh is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association and Linn County Bar Association. He is a current board member for the Greater Cedar Rapids Area Estate Planning Council and has been part of the Financial Stability Solutions Team for the United Way of East Central Iowa since 2014.

Mr. Cavanaugh has been on the Great Plains Super Lawyers Rising Star list since 2014 and is a 2015 graduate of the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce Community Leadership Program.


Laura A. Jensen is a member of the firm’s Wills, Trusts, Estate Planning, and Probate Practice Group. She joined Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman PLC in 2013.

Ms. Jensen grew up on a farm in western Iowa (Castana). She obtained her B.A. from the University of Iowa and her J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law. After law school, Ms. Jensen worked as an associate at Mayer Brown LLP in Chicago, IL and then worked as a field organizer with Organizing for America Wisconsin.

Ms. Jensen is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association, Johnson County Bar Association and the Cedar Rapids Area Estate Planning Council. She has been included in Great Plains Super Lawyers Rising Star list since 2015.


Jacob W. Nelson is an attorney with the firm’s Business and Commercial Litigation Group. His practice is centered on general commercial litigation, distribution and franchise-related litigation, and construction law. Prior to joining Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman PLC in 2015, Mr. Nelson worked as a litigation attorney at Foley & Lardner LLP in Milwaukee, WI.

Mr. Nelson served as a law clerk to Judge James E. Gritzner of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa. While attending Vanderbilt University Law School, he was a judicial extern to Judge Aleta A. Trauger of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. Prior to law school, Mr. Nelson was a member of the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps. and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa with highest distinction. He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Mr. Nelson is a member of the American Bar Association, the Iowa State Bar Association, the State Bar of Wisconsin and the Linn County Bar Association. He has been included in Great Plains Super Lawyers Rising Star list since 2016 and is a 2017 graduate of the Leadership for Five Seasons Class.
